# About Animal Checklist

> Animal Checklist is a free checklist of animals. You tick off every animal you have seen, on a walk, on holiday or at the zoo. It works on the phone, it works offline and you can add it to your home screen.

Every animal shows its name in eight languages plus the scientific name. Search finds all of them.

## Photos and licences

Photos come from iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons. Every photo is CC0 or public domain. The author, the licence and a link stand on each animal page. Photo authors do not endorse this site.

## Texts and data

Summaries come from Wikipedia under CC BY-SA and name the source. Species, names and observation counts come from iNaturalist and Wikidata.

## Privacy

Animal Checklist sets no cookies and runs no tracking. There is no account, no e-mail address and no password. Your sightings live in the local storage of your browser.

When you tick the first animal, the site asks the server for an anonymous sync code. The server stores only a hash of that code plus your animal ids and dates. Nothing in that list points to you.
