Der Australische Amethystpython (Simalia kinghorni, Syn.: Morelia kinghorni), auch Kinghorns Python, zählt zur Familie der Pythons (Pythonidae) und wird dort in die Gattung der Amethystpythons (Simalia) gestellt. Er wurde erst im Jahr 2000 als eigene Art vom Amethystpython abgetrennt. Mit gesicherten Längen über fünf Meter ist dieser schlanke Python die weitaus größte Schlange Australiens und gleichzeitig eine der längsten Schlangen der Welt. Das Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst den tropischen Nordosten Australiens und ein paar vorgelagerte Inseln der Torres-Straße. Hier bewohnt er vordergründig dichten tropischen Regenwald…
