## Summary

Der Grauspecht (Picus canus) ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Spechte (Picidae). Er ist neben dem bedeutend häufigeren Grünspecht (Picus viridis) und dem Iberiengrünspecht (Picus sharpei) der dritte Vertreter der sogenannten „Erdspechte“ in Europa. Sein Verbreitungsgebiet erstreckt sich über weite Teile der zentralen und östlichen Paläarktis, ostwärts bis an die Pazifikküste.
Der Grauspecht ist in seinen Habitatsansprüchen wesentlich anspruchsvoller als der Grünspecht. Er bevorzugt alte Laubmischwälder mit einem hohen Totholzanteil. Die Art ernährt sich vornehmlich von Ameisen, obwohl sie nicht so ausschließlich…
