Der Pottwal ist ein in allen Ozeanen verbreiteter Wal aus der Unterordnung der Zahnwale (Odontoceti). Unter den Zahnwalen ist er der einzige Großwal. Pottwale ernähren sich vorwiegend von Tintenfischen; die Bullen können dabei in Tiefen von mehr als 1000 Metern tauchen.
