# Content licences

> Texts, photos and factual data keep their own rights. This catalog has no single content licence.

## Wikipedia summaries

Wikipedia contributors supply excerpts under [CC BY-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). Excerpts are shortened and formatting adjusted.
Keep the source article, licence link, supplied notices, attribution and change information when you reuse text. Check the source article for history, additional credits and licence exceptions.
Commercial reuse is allowed under the licence. Published adaptations must follow its ShareAlike terms. Independent works in a collection keep their own rights.
[Wikimedia reuse terms](https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Terms_of_Use#7._Licensing_of_Content).

## Photos

Check each photo's author, source, licence and licence link. CC0, public-domain, Pexels and Pixabay photos have different reuse conditions.
The Public Domain Mark describes a status and grants no licence. Third-party rights can still apply. Source services and authors do not endorse this site.
[Pexels terms](https://www.pexels.com/license/) and [Pixabay terms](https://pixabay.com/service/license-summary/) restrict standalone selling or distribution.

## Factual data

Structured [Wikidata records](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Licensing) use CC0. Linked images and external sources keep their own rights.
The iNaturalist taxonomy archive supplies no explicit licence. Its metadata describes taxonomic information as factual data. We do not grant a blanket licence for third-party databases.
[iNaturalist service terms](https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/terms) include commercial AI-training restrictions. Check them separately from each content licence.

## Other content

Long-form articles are separate from Wikipedia summaries. Source references do not relicense external works. The API description's licence covers that document.
